Effective 22 August 2026. This policy covers the Car Manual Help - AI Assistant app for iPhone, published by Anish Doshi.
What the app sends, and where
The app has no account and no analytics. It does not track you across apps or websites. It sends data to four services, only to do the thing you asked for:
Anthropic (Claude). When you ask a question, your question, the recent messages in that conversation, any photo you attach, and the retrieved text of your vehicle’s manual are sent to Anthropic to generate an answer. Do not send photos containing documents, faces, or licence plates you would rather not share.
NHTSA vPIC. Your vehicle’s year, make and model, or your VIN, are sent to the United States National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to identify the vehicle. This is a public government service.
Auto.dev. If a VIN decode key is configured, your VIN is sent to Auto.dev to decode trim and options.
CarImages. Your vehicle’s year, make and model are sent to carimagesapi.com to fetch a picture of that model. No personal information is included.
Owner’s manuals are downloaded from the developer’s own content network. Those requests contain the manual being fetched and nothing about you.
What stays on your phone
Your garage, your conversation history, any photos you attached, downloaded manuals, and the search index built from them are stored on your device only. They are not uploaded anywhere. Deleting a car deletes its manual and index. Deleting the app deletes all of it.
If you download the offline assistant, questions answered by it never leave your phone.
Children
The app is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect information from them.
Changes
This policy may be updated. The effective date above changes when it does.
